Public Speaking

According to Reader’s Digest, public speaking is America’s greatest fear. This was the same for me, in 6th grade, I was a terrible public speaker, in every presentation I gave (even in the debates back then), I was poorly composed, had extremely weak notes, and could not give a clear and concise speech. Now with debate, I have no fear for public speaking. I have learned how to be a better public speaker, and ultimately, lead a better life in the future. Share how debate has helped you express yourself better.

  1. The same was true for me. When I first started debate, I read straight off of the paper. I talked so fast that nobody knew what I was saying. I had a nervous breakdown as soon as I saw how many people were watching. By the end of 7th grade, I felt comfortable talking to however many people there may be. Debate truly helps you realize that practice and experience can eliminate your fears. I am still not the best debator, but I hope that this year I will be able to re-join this club and work on my skills even more.
